Kenneth E. Ugen, PhD coauthored a paper appearing in the latest issue of the Journal of Infectious Diseases, one of the premier journals in the field of infectious diseases.  The paper entitled: “Rapid and long-term immunity elicited by DNA-encoded antibody prophylaxis and DNA vaccination against Chikungunya virus”. The lead authors were colleagues from the Wistar Institute in Philadelphia. This paper represents a novel DNA based strategy against an emerging viral infection caused by the Chikungunya virus, which has spread from India to other areas of the world including South America and the southern US. This virus is spread by mosquitoes and shares similarities with dengue and Zika viruses, although not as severe.

This paper describes a novel strategy for active and passive immune-based prevention and therapy and may have applications for use against other infectious as non-infectious diseases.
